LIAM NEESON WANTS TO SAVE HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES IN NEW YORK

As often as we hear of celebrities advocating for the welfare of animals, Liam Neeson is taking a decidedly different stance as he tries to sway the campaign promise of New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio who intends to stop horse drawn carriage rides due to concerns about the welfare of the horses.

Allegations of suffering for the horses are long standing and animal welfare advocates have been asking for a ban on the carriage horses for quite some time. However Liam Neeson, who is a long-time friend of one New York carriage horse driver, is concerned about the livelihood of the drivers. He invited the mayor to take a ride with him and to reconsider the fate of horse-drawn carriages in Central Park. Neeson, who insists allegations of horse mistreatment are unfounded, was disappointed when De Blasio declined.

Neeson was quoted as saying that the mayor “should have manned up” and accepted the invitation to go for a carriage ride and tour the horses stables.

So what do you all think about this? Please weigh in.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
