An Update On The 9 Rescued Pound Dogs (from Eugene Lee)

Just to recap, 13 dogs were rescued from one of the local pounds on 6th February 2014. On a personal basis, I raised RM2700 from my friends to pay for the dogs’ SAPP (Sponsor-a-Pet Programme) at PAWS after Eugene agreed with the plan to place the dogs at PAWS while he works on rehoming them.

Shortly after that, one dog bit through the cage and escaped through a hole in the fence. Two of the elderly dogs were taken out by Eugene for medical care and are being fostered by him now. One dog passed on at the shelter recently, leaving 9 dogs altogether. Of this 9, one was initially sickly (D113) but PAWS treated him with antibiotics and he is well now. Another had a gaping wound on her, but PAWS is also treating her now.

AnimalCare has fully sponsored two vaccinations for 7 of the healthy dogs while the 2 who were initially under treatment have received their 1st vaccination. We have pledged to cover their boosters as well. We have also pledged to cover the 9 dogs’ neutering as per policy.

From the funds I personally collected (contributed by Donald Duck, Andy Lew, Martin Lui, an anonymous donor and Tabs & Associates), we paid for the 10 dogs’ stay for the first month and another 8 dogs’ stay for the second month (up to 7th April 2014). As per agreed from the start of this rescue, Eugene will take over full responsibility of these dog thereafter.

Here’s some good news:

Dear Kah Yein,
Thanks very much for forwarding my e-mail to your friends.
Yes, of course I (or Mary) can update you and your friends periodically about the dogs. I understand and appreciate your collective and continued interest in the well-being of the dogs. On that note, I was at PAWS this past Friday, March 7, to pay the SAPP fee of RM150 for the 9th dog for the period March 7-April 7, 2014.
While at PAWS, I spoke to PAWS’ vet. She told me that D184 is young enough to warrant a third shot. Is Animalcare’s vaccination coverage limited to just two or would it cover this third shot as well?
I visited all the 9 dogs during my visit to PAWS and D113 (the one whose hind leg was injured and who had a very down and sickly character and was on antibiotics) was looking like a brand new dog – very alert and healthy. He had been vaccinated and dewormed on the 4th of March.
Eugene

We have informed Eugene that we will not be able to cover the 3rd vaccination, as per policy. We can only cover the 1st and 2nd (which is the booster). But granted, depending on the environment (in this case, a shelter), the 3rd shot is recommended but the rescuer would have to cover that himself/herself.

We wish Eugene all the best in rehoming these 9 dogs and also the other two elderly ones who are being fostered by him.
