Return Of The Rescue Van

It has been almost a month, since our rescue vehicle went for some major repairs. In a day (and night), we spend about ten hours on the roads, responding to a variety of cases. The rescue officers (both staff and volunteers) spend a lot of time using the van: handling calls, discussing plans of action, moving equipment in and out, and sometimes even deciding on a quick stop for a drink or snack. In short, we kind of missed our van and glad that the vehicle is back in action (at the cost of up to four thousand dollars!).

The cases and the species we may handle are unpredictable which means, the van should have all the items necessary for a variety of cases. Our protocols also require disinfection of carriers before using for another animal/s.

So, this week – instead of sharing rescue stories, we thought we will give you a sneak peak of the vans inside, and how we manage to pack a lot of equipment and carriers, to be prepared for any type of rescues at any given time. Not shown in these pictures are the first aid boxes (for animals and humans )

Space is a challenge, given the diversity of items to be packed in. We see novel cases every day, from rescuing a Slow Loris from a car engine to getting a tiny bird flying around, stranded inside a high ceiling building. While you take a sneak peek, we welcome help from experienced people – in terms of bringing in more organization inside our van in terms of added shelves/cupboards! If you have a contact to help us with the above, please email Lester, our Head of Operations at lester@acres.org.sg
