A few days ago, the ACRES rescue team rescued 2 young civet cats which were trapped in a rat trap by accident. They were released into the wooded area next to the site because their mother would usually stay nearby.

The Common Palm Civets are also known as Toddy Cats. The name came about because this creature was apparently fond of drinking from vessels put in palm trees to collect sap for making toddy or palm sugar. It has a distinct musky odour when harassed. The odour has been likened to fragrance of Pandanus leaves.They are native to Singapore, and are omnivorous, taking fruits as well as small mammals including rats and birds. The palm civets are nocturnal and generally solitary when mature. They like to live in the roof space of houses.
