Suzzie – 7th week of rehabilitation
After pulling through the intensive and complicated operation, Suzzie has been showing consistent progress, balancing herself with a temporary missing limb. Bandage change needs to be done daily and we can tell how fast Suzzie is growing judging from her strength. She is beginning to outgrow her baby teeth (we can feel them sinking in through the gloves when we hold her!) . Puzzle feeders, mirrors, auditory and visual enrichments were provided to ensure that she remains wild.
While she is recovering, the team is currently working with researchers in tracking down the distribution range of her troop. Though rehabilitation will continue for quite sometime, we cant wait to return Suzzie back to her troop. Like caring for a child, we are so proud of Suzzie’s indomitable spirit for survival despite the trauma she has gone through.
Suzzie’s story has touched the hearts of many especially at ARVC (Animal Recovery Veterinary Clinic) , where she is being treated. It is indeed heartwarming when pet owners that comes in, showed genuine concern on Suzzie and want to help the macaques. Suzzie is but one macaque, but with her story, we hope that it will inspire the hearts of many, to be the voice for the macaques.
