Gutsy Princess, A 17 Year-Old Dog With No More Kidney Activity

Princess is Connie’s 17 year-old dog. During Chinese New Year, Princess lost her appetite and started vomiting food and water. Connie brought Princess in to the vet’s and Princess was diagnosed as having kidney failure. Being 17 years old, that wasn’t totally surprising as this comes with age.

Princess was put on IV-drips. There was nothing left to be done for her except to let the fluids flush the toxins out. Her kidney reading was an alarming 900. Ultrasound scans showed that there was no more kidney activity.

Princess looked bad and Connie was prepared for the worst. If Princess’ kidney readings did not improve, Connie would take her back so that Princess could be with her family, doggy and human.

Connie visited daily and gradually, Princess’ kidney readings improved.

It was sheer gut, determination, faith and medical science, all thrown in. Princess began to “recover” and even started eating her favourite food – Gardenia bread!

Every day, Princess showed small steps of better wellbeing.

Today, Princess was discharged and is now home with her family, as well and happy as she can be! Her kidney reading was 300 yesterday.

The vet taught Connie how to administer subcutaneous fluids for Princess daily. This will have to be a daily affair now as Princess has no more kidney functions.

Princess is back home, happy and with her family again, after more than 2 weeks of hospitalisation.
