Updates On 18th Feb 2014

The ACRES wildlife sanctuary needs constant maintenance for it to provide our animals with a comfortable living environment. The weather has been very dry and hot in the past two months and it has been forcing our tortoises to seek shelter, only coming out in the later afternoon or when it is cooler. We had initially put up shade nets to filter the sun but this has been insufficient.

To improve shade conditions, we are currently transplanting Banana plants and putting up bigger shade nets to provide our tortoises with more shade. Hopefully, this would encourage them to be more active. This would also allow us to provide our animals with enrichments when they are out foraging. Today, we put up new and bigger shade nets for our female Indian star tortoise enclosures, which have been partially angled to filter the morning and afternoon sunshine.
