Rover Is On The Road To Recovery From A Vicious Knife Wound

Hi, its Rover here. Have you heard of me yet? If you havent you can read about me coming to Soi Dog by visiting https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.650689678306104.1073742560.108625789179165&type=3

I have been very unhappy lately. I am a breed they call Cocker Spaniel and while I dont know what the differences are between breeds and the dogs you see on the street, I have been told that dogs that are referred to as a type of breed are very popular with foreigners in Thailand. I used to live in a house with a family, but they decided to move back to their other country. They could have taken me with them, but they decided they didnt want to spend the money. They also could have found a new family for me to live with, but they decided I wasnt worth the effort. I loved them so much, so it really hurts me that they dumped me on the street one day rather than finding a way for me to be taken care of.

I was struggling to survive on my own on the street as I didnt know how to find food and water. Recently I was called over by a man and I was so excited, thinking he was going to give me food and maybe if I was lucky he would want me to come and live with him at his house. Instead, he had a big knife behind his back and he cut me on my shoulder. I dont know why he did this to me, I was only trying to be friendly. Later that day, a lady called out to me, but I was too scared to go and say hello to her I case she had a knife too. She tried to catch me and a couple of other men tried to help her, but I was terrified they were going to hurt me, so I ran away. Over the next couple of days, my shoulder was hurting very badly and would not stop bleeding. I went into the yard of a house, trying to find somewhere safe to rest, but the man living in the house shut the gate and I couldnt leave. I was so worried he wanted to hurt me too, but next thing I knew, a man named Khun Jaroon came and put me in his truck and took me to a place called Soi Dog Foundation.

When we arrived at Soi Dog, a person called a vet looked after me and treated my shoulder and gave me medicine to make me feel better. They have sewn up my shoulder as they said the wound from the knife was so bad that it would not get better on its own. Thankfully due to a team called the Emergency Response Team (https://www.soidog.org/en/donate-today/ert/ert.html), Soi Dog was able to send Khun Jaroon to come and get me and were able to have vets ready to look after me.

While I was being treated, a lady came in to see me and she was the lady who had tried to catch me a few days before. It turns out she is the shelter manager here at Soi Dog and she was only trying to help me. I wish I had trusted her now, as I would have been able to be looked after sooner. I am going to have to stay in the clinic for a little while as I am too skinny and need to be fed extra food and I have anaemia.

I am so grateful that people helped me and who knows, I may learn to like and trust humans again. The people looking after me say they can only do so because of the people who have joined the Emergency Response Team.
