Its been 4 weeks since Suzzie was rescued. Her fractured forearm seems quite limb and wont be strong enough for now. The swelling on her hand has subsided but unfortunately, she’s not moving her fingers. She will begin her physiotheraphy sessions next week. The good news is there are fresh granulating tissues growing to cover the open wounds.
It can be extremely stressful for especially young macaques housed alone before they can be released back into the wild. The Macaque Rescue Team believes that rescuing a macaque is not just about meeting its medical needs but also keeping in mind its pychological needs because it plays a huge role in ensuring a successful recovery.
“Suzzie is trying her best to adapt to the temporary changes but we wont deny that emptiness, a companion of her own kind. She was often heard giving out distress calls. To act as a temporary companion, she was given a toy that resembles a monkey. She was seen hugging and grooming it. Since then, she has stopped showing signs of distress and reduced the frequency of pulling her bandage. Small changes can actually mean the world to an animal”.
Towards a world where animals are treated with compassion and respect, we believe that Suzzie will pull through and then be able to be returned back to where she belong.
