-2 WINDCHILL & WARM BREAKFAST ARRIVES FOR FERAL CATS
This cat is simply named Orange. Harmony Fund Founder Laura Simpson has been feeding Orange and the rest of this feral cat colony (all spayed/neutered) for more than 12 years.
There are three volunteers who share feeding the cats here on their assigned days of the week and the cats have two hand crafted shelters that offer multiple layers of protection from cold weather and from predators. The shelters are located behind a partial cement wall in a wooded area that conceals the cats home from sight by anyone driving by on the adjacent road. Because this former industrial area is now vacant, the cats, and many other forms of wildlife including fox, skunks and raccoons are at ease here. Even the birds come down from the trees to have a nibble of cat food and a drink of water (hard to come by in this extreme cold).
Caring for feral cats is a commitment that can span decades, but one that brings great joy. Tonight Orange and his friends are sleeping in a snug hand-built shelter – safe from the wind and snow, and when they rise early in the morning, breakfast will be waiting.
