The Harmony Fund is helping sponsor the feeding of 1,305 cats and dogs at the Shelter Kiev SOS in Ukraine – an extraordinary refuge with an incredible back-story.
In the early 90s, the shelter’s founder Tamara Tarnawska gathered fellow journalists and, with the use of hidden cameras, they revealed a long-time practice rounding up stray dogs and cats to be killed for their fur at a local factory. After Tamara brought down a massive worldwide protest against authorities in the Ukraine, the mayor of Kiev gave the gruesome factory to Tamara and invited her to turn it into a place of LOVE. Tamara took this opportunity to heart and has saved some 20,000 dogs and cats since that day.
The shelter is now facing hard economic times, and the Harmony Fund is here to help. Operating costs at the shelter are about $3,500 a month. Do you think we can pull together to pay the entire month’s bills for February? This would be our Valentine to one of the most courageous and effective rescuers we know and Tamara truly needs our help
