“CALL OF THE WILDMAN” TV SHOW ACCUSED OF HURTING ANIMALS

According to a report issued by Mother Jones on Tuesday, the Animal Planet television series “Call of the Wildman” has been criticized for a series of situations endangering the welfare of animals including the following:

1. Wrestling a drugged captive zebra to the ground

2. Allowing baby raccoons to become dehydrated and emaciated (one later died) in order to postpone their “rescue” to suit the needs of the show’s production schedule

3. Numerous ‘dramatizations’ in which animals are put into confined spaces and a rescue is staged for audiences. Most of those encounters involve Ernie “Turtleman” Brown grabbing and wrestling animals in a manner that puts them at risk for being injured.

Please share your thoughts on this controversy here. Does this show belong side-by-side with legitimate rescue programming?

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
