Here’s the Rainbow Turtles!
This is a 2-layered cotton patchwork without padding in between.
It measures 52 inches by 71.5 inches.
The turtle cloth is contributed by Ng Chen Chen. With Chen Chen’s 1 metre turtle parade cloth, I churned out two blankets without wasting even a single bit of cloth (this called for very exact measuring)! And the “framing” helped too. The turtle cloth is quality Japanese cotton. Its normal price is RM45 per metre.
The rest of the cloth (in the colours of the rainbow) is our own.
Ginger made sure I got the arrangement in the correct order – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.
A lot of patching and matching were involved for this piece. I used 14 different types of cloth to get all the shades of the rainbow with two shades for each colour. And this piece was done during my hand-sewing days. All the cats came to help. Some supervised; some acted as “paper weights”.
Including Timmy!
Then, came the top-stitching and the backing, which was much harder work, even though it was done with the sewing machine.
Ginger stayed throughout. He is my most loyal sewing companion (and supervisor!).
The top-stitching was done with thread in the rainbow colours too.
The backing cloth (in beige) is contributed by Agnes and Gerley.
It took me almost a week to complete just the top-stitching and backing because it involved changing thread.
Lots of hard work, good cheer, love and COLOUR has been woven into this blanket!

Happy Bidding!
May the auspicious Turtle bring longevity and good health to all!
It’s No. 23 – Another auspicious number!
For RM150, you get to help a dog neutering or a cat neutering and two vaccinations. In return for your kindness and generosity, you get a long-lasting home-sewn blanket – for your own use or to give away as a present to a loved one. And this one comes with auspicious turtles to boot, in cheerful rainbow colours!
