WHO COULD DO THIS TO AN INNOCENT ANIMAL?

Goethe came to the shelter after a concerned Phuket resident called to say the dog had wounds on his neck and hind legs, with the neck wound having maggots inside it. After being seen by the vets, we believe that the wounds may have been caused by hot water or oil being thrown onto the dog. As this is a cruelty case, Goethe will be staying at the shelter until a home can be found for him.

Unfortunately injuries like this, while not seen every day, are not uncommon in Thailand. Some locals do not like dogs living in their areas. Often dogs are poisoned, but those who are not are often subjected to horrific cruelty like that inflicted on Goethe or worse. By abusing the animals, the locals believe it will drive the animal away, but in a lot of cases it does not as the dog only knows its own territory and may be unwelcome in a new territory by other dogs. In such cases the dog may then be subjected to ongoing cruelty until hopefully a concerned person does something about it or the animal dies.

Only you can help save dogs like Goethe and give them a chance of recovery and quality of life. To help Thailand’s dogs and cats, please consider making a donation at: https://www.soidog.org/en/donate-today/
