Live And Let Live, Please?

This morning as I was feeding Willy at the culvert outside my house, a cat-friendly neighbour came over to alert me of a new development.

Apparently, an elderly person is unhappy that people are feeding cats at a public park because he/she has asthma. The person claims that he/she cannot walk in the park anymore now because of the presence of these cats.

The cat-friendly neighbour is now very worried for the cats.

In case you encounter a similar situation, this article may be of some help:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-319868/Cats-dust-wont-cause-asthma.html(only if the complainant is open-minded enough). Alternatively, maybe feeders who encounter this problem could relocate their “feeding station” to a less human-populated area or a friendlier area.

There will always be complaints about the presence of animals in our environment because we cannot expect everyone to embrace the “Live and let live; This earth belongs to them too” principle of living harmoniously with animals.

We would just to have to find ways to go about the problem, hopefully to solve it as amicably as we can because we have to always remember that the wellbeing of the animals come first.

Do not antagonise complainants – we (and the animals) only stand to lose because (man-made) laws are not favourable to the animals, and animals cannot defend themselves too. Animals also cannot read signboards and there are no public toilets for them to use. They just live according to the laws of nature because that is all they know. We are sympathetic, but others may not be.

Unless and until the authorities and those in power make a stand in favour for the animals, we will always be facing an uphill battle in our endeavour to help street animals. “When the going gets tough, the tough get going” is an understatement when it comes to animal welfare work.

The going is always tough…and only the tough will survive.
