About 7 weeks ago, we first got a distress call from volunteer Tamara Raab who told us about a heartbreaking situation in Romania. She described the tear-stained desperation of an elderly woman and her daughter, living in a concrete house with a dirt floor. No electricity, plumbing or heat were found here. The women had only a single change of clothes each and a bare mattress that they had once fetched from the garbage dump. No sheets or pillows. No sink or toilet. Living in the most dire poverty, these woman thought only of the large group of dogs and cats who needed them for their very survival. After all, this is Romania and there are many.

Tamara asked for our help and the Harmony Fund quietly made a contribution to help rebuild the women’s house and turn it into a home. There are now walls without holes and a finishes ceiling that doesn’t allow the snow in. Electric lights illuminate the house and the animals can now have hot meals thanks to a cooking stove. Yes, 2013 brought a lot of miracles, but this is one of our favorites.

As we look at this dear face of the woman who gave everything of herself to care for the animals who needed her, despite her own hardship, we are revitalized. In this photo, you see ‘mama’ resting outdoors while her home is reconstructed. At the moment this photo was taken, her life was in the midst of metamorphosis and that is why it is so special to us.

This story, the warm little house that has come to be for this mother and daughter and many thankful dogs & cats, are a tribute to the love of all of you who support our work all across this great big planet of ours. I know we’ve said it a a thousand times before, but it’s never often enough. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
