Macaque Rescue Team update: A Christmas Eve rescue
In the early morning on Christmas Eve, the Macaque Rescue Team was soon at work responding to a call about an injured macaque at MacRitchie Reservoir Park.
A troop of macaques was seen near some restrooms, but there was no sign of the injured macaque. However, a closer look inside the restrooms revealed an injured female macaque hiding in there, bleeding profusely from her head, back, perianal region and tail. She was badly dehydrated and could barely sit upright. She could no longer fend for herself or show any aggression. Although it is often best to leave injured wild animals in the wild to recover, sometimes, in cases like these- where animals are seriously wounded and appear to have been abandoned by their troop- intervention is necessary to save the animals life. So Eve was gently caught and taken for specialist veterinary care at the Animal Recovery Veterinary Referral Centre (ARVRC).
Eve is recovering well now and will be released back to MacRitchie Reservoir Park as soon as possible, hopefully next week. Thankfully, she didnt suffer from any broken limbs or require any surgery. The rescue team has been cleaning her wounds daily and ensuring she gets proper nutrition to boost her back to health, with the help of the Dr Lee and the vet nurses at ARVRC.
We thank the kind member of the public who alerted us to Eves plight and assisted with her rescue.
