COLDEST SEARCH & RESCUE MISSION OF THE SEASON
Update by Harmony Fund Founder Laura Simpson
It was 12 degrees farenheit (-11 celcius) when I started out early this morning and it didn’t take long for the cold to burn right through my gloves. The day began by readying three separate cat colonies for the first deep snowstorm of the season. Feeding stations were elevated so that they won’t be submerged in the snow and shelters were inspected to make sure the cats will be warm and safe during tonight’s storm.
The major mission of the day was an hour to the east at a horse race track north of Boston where cats are occasionally left behind at the end of the season by workers who move to a warmer climate for the winter. We’ve rescued many abandoned cats and chickens there over the years.
My 8-year-old daughter Sabrina, who was sweet enough to be patient throughout very long & hard day, shot this photo during the search of the massive race track that has more than 34 large barns and hundreds upon hundreds of individual stalls.
Thanks to all our donors near and far who walk beside us every day in our mission to protect animals. And SPECIAL thanks to Catherine and Cindy who are thawing out tonight after leading the search.
