WORK TO STOP DOG TRADERS CONTINUES

Whilst so much has been focused on the care of dogs that have been rescued from the illegal dog meat trade it is easy to forget that Soi Dog Foundation continues to invest heavily in permanently stopping the industry.

Work to stop the trade continues on 2 fronts:

1. Continued investigation and cooperation with law enforcement bodies towards interdicting smuggling operations.

2. Working with the national governments of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam & Thailand towards enactment of stronger laws and active enforcement of existing laws as regards the illegal trade.

The vast majority of the trade is from Thailand to Vietnam via Laos. Laos border guards advise no live shipments have crossed into Vietnam since April but this information cannot be relied upon.

Soi Dog supporters continue to provide finance for local investigators working in the field including Watch Dog Thailand who have been the most successful group this year, and to pay the police and other authorities for cooperation. Agents continue to monitor the Laos/Vietnam border.

These photos were taken in September when a butchers facility in a jungle in Sakhon Nakhon Province was raided. (Most photos are too distressing to share here, as sadly many dogs had already been killed). It appears that smugglers are changing tactics and are turning to killing dogs locally as easier to hide. With a large network and corruption rife it is not easy to catch them but without doubt the export of live dogs to Vietnam has been severely curtailed.

Dog meat continues to be sold openly in Thailands Tha Rae district which is the centre of the illegal trade.
