The Battle To Save Brigitte......

Original story from Monday here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.625675720807500.1073742414.108625789179165&type=1

Many people have been asking for an update on Brigitte who arrived at the SDF centre on Monday afternoon. She is still extremely weak and has refused all food until this morning. Refusing to eat is generally a sign that the dog has lost the will to live and we see this regularly with abandoned pets.

We often wish owners could see their former pets simply shut down and refuse to go on as we try to get them to want to live again. It is heart breaking to see. Brigitte is just one of many similar cases we see each week.

She has now had the appetite stimulant changed which does have a side effect of inducing sleep as well. She is being given fluids and essential vitamins and minerals intravenously. This morning she did eat the Royal Canin recovery food though refused chicken and eggs which most dogs cannot resist. The fact that she has eaten something is a positive sign though. Is very much a wait and see situation at present. Her skin condition is of no concern as can treat that when she is stronger. Obviously the blood parasite is of concern as attacking her red blood cells.
