I just received a call from Lina.
Chewie's gone.
Lina and friends had gone out and had just got back. They had left Chewie to sleep in the cage before going out. When they got back, Chewie was already gone. It appeared that she could have vomited blood.
I was shocked to receive the news, but perhaps it wasn't totally unexpected because we all know anything can happen, especially with a young kitten like Chewie. The surgery had been so high-risk and difficult, yet she recovered amazingly well. Then, she went down the next day, but perked up again today, giving everyone so much hope and cheer.
I can only close my eyes now and remember her courage and what a perky little girl she was. Brave little Chewie, we have much to learn from you about making good of whatever time we have.
It was just hours ago that she made us all so happy at the clinic, walking around without the bandage and behaving as every little kitten should - curious, alert and happy.
May you be in a better existence now, Chewie. You fought a brave battle and came out shining. Maybe your life was meant to be a short one. Maybe you came to give Lina, Hebi, Angie, Doris and Zax an opportunity to look after you, to shower you with so much love and kindness.
You came to this world as a stray, and now you leave as a beloved pet, having received so much love and care.
The time may have been short, but isn't time relative?
Chewie had a good one week before leaving this Earth for a better place. That amounts to having had a good life.
Go on to a happier life now, Chewie. We will miss you so much, but we shall always remember your courage, your strength and how you lived life to the fullest.
In loving memory of Chewbacca. Chewie, our spunky gal.
