CROATIAN DOG FAMILY LEFT IN WOODS IS REUNITED!
Some of you saw the news yesterday that after hours of searching in the woods, Petra managed to locate the last three puppies in the bitter cold. Here is what she has to say:
“I started crying today when I found these 3 alive. I was so scared I would find them frozen as temperatures are -5 celsius in the city let alone in the fields or woods. The water in the trench is frozen
but i think they were in fertilizer/manure as they smelled of cow poo.”
After finding the whole family of dogs, Petra had no where to take them because the people who had offered to foster them changed their minds.
“I don’t have a shelter,” Petra explains, “I have been sitting in my car with this poor frozen pups thinking, ‘Where will i take them?’ Now they are in an empty flat that is being used as a storage center and is for sale. It has no heating and no people. I made them a little house from a big metal kennel box and
covered it with blankets and towels from all sides. Then I laid 3 layers of blanket and towels for them to sleep on
made a fence from empty boxes so they can have a “yard” to do their stuff there and the house for playing and sleeping. Mommy can hop over the boxes and spend time with her pups but they can’t get out. Mommy has a bed next to their kennel. She has her own food and water bowl and they have their puppy milk and food bowls a friend of mine and i are going to go there 4 times a day to check on them and to feed and clean them and walk the mommy. There are 4 beautiful girls and one boy.”
No, rescue work isn’t for the faint of heart. Even when you help an animal, often there’s no where to turn. Funds from Harmony Fund will help with food and veterinary care and a more stable foster care solution is being sought. Please remember, this is in Croatia and Petra’s options for finding care for the dogs are far more limited than they might be in some other parts of the world.
THANK YOU all for your words of encouragement. If anyone would like to make an additional donation today for the dogs, we will gladly send that to Petra.
