Somet Adopted! (from Marina Mustapha)

We subsidised Somet’s treatment recently and now, Marina has found a home for her!

Dear Dr Chan,
Pleased to advise that Somet will be going to new home tonight. The adopter is willing to vaccine and spay her. But I suspected that Somet may already been spayed.

So requested adopter to monitor her for another month ( consulted vet on this matter).

Hope it works out but will request adopter to return somet to me if it did not.

Thank you.

It is wise to monitor any rescued female cat (who is friendly) for 2-4 weeks under confinement because the cat may have already been spayed. This is to prevent the unnecessary re-opening up of the cat for the purpose of getting her spayed.

I did this for Heidi and she never came on heat at all. This means Heidi had already been previously spayed.

We rejoice with Marina on the adoption of Somet. From the streets to a loving home now.

We also wish to emphasise that in doing CNRM, let R = Rehome first, before opting for Return-to-Colony. In our country where animal lovers are a minority and free-roaming animals are considered a “kacau-ganggu” and can be destroyed if a complaint is put in or if the authorities run checks, please prioritise rehoming.

For the animals who cannot be rehomed, please ensure the place where these neutered animals are returned to is safe enough and that the humans in the area are not likely to lodge a complaint or abuse the animals.

We totally understand that each person can only do his/her best and that rehoming is one of the most difficult areas in rescue work.

So there is a reason why it’s called C-N-R-M. It comes in that order.

Care (Feed)
Neuter
Rehome
(Return to Colony) and Manage

If we cannot do anything else but just care/feed, it will still be an act of kindness.
