Rescue And Release, And The Illegal Wildlife Trade.

Over the past two months ACRES has rescued over 200 animals, including many from the illegal wildlife trade including star tortoises, ball pythons and a painted terrapin. We have also successfully released over 100 native animals back into the wild right here in Singapore. These include nearly 90 reptiles such as monitor lizards, reticulated pythons, cobras, vipers, pangolins, civets, bats, Paradise tree snakes and Wolf snakes, and a Malayan Box turtle.
We also had some great news at the AWRC when one of our resident Pig-Nosed Turtles, Captain Hook, ‘relieved himself’ of his name-sake – the fish hook which had been lodged inside him!
Probably our favourite rescue story of the last two months though was when we found a lone hatchling Hawksbill turtle on a grass patch of Tanah Merah ferry terminal. The poor fella had lost his way and mistook some bright lights for moon as his guide to the ocean. Luckily ACRES were on hand to point him in the right direction and he was released the same evening!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us in this crucial work. Thank you also to all those who have called us to the rescues.
