While our typical canine family members bring us immeasurable happiness through play and companionship, some dogs provide invaluable service to humans by performing very demanding jobs for most of their lives. They work hard just like the rest of us. Guide dogs, one of the most well-known types of working dogs, are trained to know the difference between work and play, and help the visually impaired get around in the world. There is no room for typical dog fun while they are working because games, treats and praises distract them from helping their handlers, which places the handlers in danger.

Guide dogs and their handlers often face difficulty when accessing places because of a general lack of knowledge and understanding. While most places have policies in place that support guide dogs and their handlers, many are not well-informed of these policies and some are not tolerant of dogs.

Cassandra and Esme were at our recently concluded World Animal Day celebration, and United Square Shopping Mall welcomed them readily.

Here’s something to help you better understand how Esme guides Cassandra around – https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=524791184263528&set=vb.315580165175066&type=2&theater

Let’s work together and build a more inclusive and supportive society!
