Medical Subsidy For Rescued Injured Dog (Stacy Tay Siew Hons)

Stacy Tay called me yesterday requesting financial help for a rescued dog she found at the market area in the morning. She brought the dog to the vet’s and the estimated cost was RM2000. According to Stacy, surgery is required for the dog as severe injury was sustained in the lower part of his body.

We informed Stacy that we would need photographs, the vet’s report and all communication is by email only. Stacy said she would enlist a friend to help with the emailing. She also informed us that she is able to come up with RM600.

We received this email early this morning:

Hi Dr. Chan,
I refer to the above and pleased to attach herewith the photos of the injured dog. He is now warded at (name of clinic provided) in Petaling Jaya and he is scheduled for surgery on this coming Tuesday. Dr. (name provided) has quoted the package for the surgery at RM 1,500.00. As I know the rescuer has deposited RM500.00 to the clinic upon the admission of the dog. My role is to assist her to raise funds and take care of the dog’s well being. I hope you will kindly considerto subsidise for the dog’s surgery. Person to contact is (name of vet and contact details provided).
Thank you.
Regards,
Carol

We have replied Carol’s email.

We have also called up the vet and verified that the dog sustained a fracture in the lower part of his body and surgery is required. The vet has offered a “package” of RM1500 provided Stacy discharges the dog when the vet ascertains the dog is fit enough to be discharged.

We have also communicated to Stacy the following (based on her confirmation that she is able to provide RM600 for this dog’s surgery):

If Stacy is able to provide a report from the vet, with all documentations in order as per our policy, we will work together with PetFinder.my and jointly provide the required RM900 so that Stacy need not raise funds from other sources which may, inadvertently, result in confusion amongst well-intentioned donors.

Stacy has agreed with the above. We now await the report from the vet (to be obtained by Stacy).

We hope the surgery will be successful.

Updates at 6.30pm: We have just spoken with Stacy and none of her family members can assist her in creating a PetFinder.my profile. As such, we have pledged our maximum subsidy of RM500.
