Having spent most of his life on the balcony, this dog knew only the four glass walls that surrounded him. Our inspectors arrived on the scene in June 2011 after receiving a call from a concerned resident living in the same condominium, and tried to contact the dog’s owner several times. Their efforts were to no avail, and we alerted the AVA.

In the following months, we gathered evidence to boost our case against the owner and kept our liaison with the AVA as the owner continued to keep his dog on the balcony.

With pictorial evidence taken by our inspectors and testimonial evidence provided by witnesses, the AVA filed a charge against the owner. While the dog was not ill and did not sustain physical injuries, the Judge agreed that its welfare was neglected and that a balcony was no place for a dog to live its life; the owner was subsequently fined and the dog is now allowed in the house.

If you witness an act of deliberate cruelty or abandonment of an animal, please call us at 6287 5355 ext. 9 and provide us with details and pictures to help us strengthen our case.
