WOMAN RESCUES HUNDREDS OF TADPOLES FROM POOL PUMP

My neighbor was away for a month and hadn’t opened her pool. I was listening to the beautiful chorus of the tree frogs who were living under the cover. One day the pool guys arrived and started pumping the water off the top of cover. I ran over to try and retrieve these frogs only to find the guys spewing thousands of tadpoles out of the caught water and leaves of the pool cover!

I asked them to stop and help me save these critters and they looked at me like I had a third eye. One of them was wearing a tee shirt which read “hope you like animals cuz I’m a real beast” His cohort kicked in and started skimming them with a net before they were sucked into the pump hose. We had 4 full pails of swimmers and I scooped a lot of them from the ground.

I knew they were either Spring peepers or Northern true green tree frog babies. After calling upon friends with ponds, and relocating some of them across my farm field in the pond, I kept one utility bucket full of tadpoles to show the kids, nephews, nieces and such. Everybody will go home with a few to add to their landscape. All they need is some trees and if there is a sprinkler system, they are in frog heaven.
