India Moves Towards Ban On Household-Product Tests On Animals

I received this in an email from PETA:
We have exciting news to share! Following a PETA campaign, key decisionmakers in India have proposed to end tests on animals for household products and their ingredients!
After an extensive campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India—which included appeals from high-profile politicians as well as lengthy discussions with a PETA India scientist—the Bureau of Indian Standards’ Soaps and Other Surface Active Agents Sectional Committee proposed to end the use of animals in tests required for household products and their ingredients. The proposal was made during a recent meeting of the committee, on which PETA India Science Policy Adviser Dr. Chaitanya Koduri has a seat, and the final decision on a ban will be made by Dr. G.N. Singh, the Drugs Controller General of India, soon. Last month, Dr Koduri had held a private meeting with Dr Singh and urged him to implement the ban.
This announcement comes on the heels of a recently enacted ban on cosmetics testing on animals in India, which followed PETA India’s campaign, as well as similar bans in the European Union and Israel.
This progress marks another important milestone in the fight to end animal testing worldwide, and PETA is working hard to urge other countries, including the U.S., to follow in the footsteps of the EU, Israel, and India by adopting a ban on cruel tests on animals for cosmetics, personal-care, and household products. There are still millions of animals suffering in laboratories around the world who need your help! Although more than 1,300 companies around the world have banned cruel tests on animals in favor of reliable and modern non-animal tests, some countries still require substances to be dripped into animals’ eyes, smeared onto their abraded skin, or forced down their throats.
We urge you to support the compassionate cruelty-free companies that have pledged never to harm any animals for their products by using PETA’s brand-new global cruelty-free shopping guide every time you shop! Order a free copy or use PETA’s “Beauty Without Bunnies” online database to find wonderful cruelty-free products to fit all your needs.
Thanks for your continued support and compassion for animals in laboratories!
Sincerely,
Kathy Guillermo

Join the “Beauty without Bunnies” movement, folks! Buy and use products that are NOT tested on animals! Or, better still, use minimally and only what we truly need. After all, when it’s time for us to leave this earth, we cannot take anything with us. But we definitely leave behind our deeds, good or bad!
