Hawksbill Turtle Release

Heres a short clip featuring an animal you may see in Singapore- if youre lucky! Its an endangered hawksbill turtle hatchling.

Yesterday afternoon, this little fellow was found looking very lost on a grass patch at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal- maybe not far from the sea for us, but a dangerously long way from the sea for such a small animal. We think hed probably got disorientated after hatching from his shell and, instead of heading towards the ocean, hed wandered inland, and was in danger of overheating, starvation and falling prey to predators. A concerned member of the public found the little turtle and took him home, before calling us for assistance. We collected the turtle and, after determining that he was fit and well, released him on the beach near the ferry terminal yesterday evening.

If you do spot wild turtles in Singapore, please keep your distance and leave them well alone. If a turtle appears injured or in need of help, you can call the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline 97837782.
