Goodbye, Sonny & Lek-Lek (from Judy Chua And Imms Shelter)

This is so sad, but such are the risks and dangers of living out there, being a free-roaming animal in this human-dominated world. We share the grief of Judy and Imm, and wish Sonny & Lek-Lek a happy life in their new existence now.

Its been 3 weeks since mother and son, Lek Lek and Sonny went missing from the shelter grounds. As I write this, I can feel an uncomfortable lump rising in my throat and my eyes getting misty. Its hard to have to say goodbye to trusted friends.
Much as we had hoped that Sonny and Lek Lek would reappear and lift our hearts, the sad truth is that they may be the 2 of the 3 dogs found dead from poisoning at a nearby orchard. The information was conveyed to us by our worker soon after I sent out my email on them. He said he had heard about the dead dogs from his friend. The dogs were poisoned around the time Lek Lek and Sonny went missing.
The worker also said that the nearby chicken farmer occassionally poisons the strays near his farm. The circumstances sound suspicious as Lek Lek and Sonny never stray far fom the shelter area, they are always around the shelter vicinity.
It is sad and unfortunate that there are those who regard stray animals as lesser beings. Even more difficult to comprehend are people who still consume dog meat in this day and age. There are dog meat eaters in the nearby orchards, hence the main gate leading to the shelter is always locked, and the shelter gate itself locked when the worker is out.
May Lek Lek and Sonny find good rebirths. May they know that they were also much loved.
