Speaking Up For The Animalsand Humans Too!

On certain days, I am privileged to be invited to give talks (though I’ve had to turn down almost 75% of the invitations ever since AnimalCare work was given priority).
Today’s sharing was at the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association. I spoke about “metta” (translated as “goodwill to all beings”) and invited the audience to examine their practice of it.
Of course, whenever I speak, inevitably, I will speak up for the animals too! But of course, I spoke up for marginalised humans too. Fair’s fair.
Taking notes?
We had an interesting question from the floor: Are we practising speciesism when we eat meat?
You tell me?
The short answer is “yes”.
And the long answer? Well, we can talk until the cows come home and defend meat-eating, but the bottom line is, our heart knows!
The general feedback from the audience was that the sharing really “made them think”. Now, that’s a really nice feedback. We want to inculcate a society that thinks, examines, questions and investigates. That’s the only way we can improve.
I will be repeating this talk again at another centre next Sunday, in Setia Alam.
