We found this boy (now named Zac by his loving family) just over a year ago. Our Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) had received a call from the public and arrived on the scene to meet with a kind finder, who informed him that he had found a male Husky pup tied to a tree and subject to the elements. The finder had reason to believe that the dog belonged to a neighbour, and our ARO left a note at the alleged owner’s home after getting no response, asking for the owner to contact us when he/she returned. Then, our ARO brought Zac back with him, so he could have some shelter at the SPCA while waiting for his owner to show up.

Despite our many attempts to contact her, Zac’s owner didn’t show up. Three weeks later, we had the then six-month-old Zac fostered by the Ng family. A week later, Zac’s owner contacted us, wanting to claim him. However, she couldn’t explain why Zac was tied to a tree twice on the same day or why it took her almost a month to contact us and claim her pet. Given that she wasn’t able to prove her ownership, and worried that the dog could be neglected or abandoned again, we refused her claim and kept Zac with us.

Zac’s owner then took legal action against us for inflicting emotional distress on her, and for causing her financial loss and damage by wrongfully detaining Zac.

After ten months and two mediation sessions which the owner failed to turn up for, the Judge threw the case out in June this year. Having been in our custody for over ten months, Zac (now one-and-a-half years old) could finally go home with his fosterers, the Ng family, who were more than happy to adopt him and give him all the love he deserves.

Zac finally has his happy ending. Thank you, Ng family! :)
