RAT SAVED FROM SWIMMING POOL SAYS “THANKS”
Shared by Annina Huang
“Though Rats are not exactly the animal we think of saving or wanting around one’s home, there was one day that I couldn’t help but act. I was laid up in bed with a broken knee – not even yet on crutches (spent 4 months on my back). As I was laying there I noticed that a field rat had fallen into my pool and was slowing tiring out from trying to swim. The pauses between his struggle and lack of motion where getting longer and longer. I just had to do something.
I maneuvered out of bed (no easy task) and started the long one legged hop to the pool net and back to the pool. I scooped the almost drowned rat out of the water and lay the rat down on the patio in the shade. I did chose not to get too close but I did see signs of life in him yet (his head had remained above water the entire time) so I backed up as to not make him nervous, scared or stressed with my presence and watched as he slowly seem to gather his strength back and off he scampered.
About 2 days later I was sitting at my desk looking out towards the side of the house and from the corner of my eye I saw some movement. There was a little hole in the gate by the side of my house and there was a rat staring intently at me. The inner instinct that pierced through me, the “vibe” coming from the rat was warm and friendly. He just sat there gazing at me, his little eyes locked on me, and somehow ( please don’t laugh) very loving. We shared what must have been 3 or 4 minutes of a friendly stare down. It’s my belief he had come to say his thank you.”
