Smugglers attempting to cross the Mekong River with 90 cats were intercepted on the border. The cats were destined for either Vietnam or China.
These are the first cats ever to be intercepted in Thailand destined for the meat trade.
The cats have been taken to the Nakhon Phanom shelter and Soi Dog has already sent funds to care for them. Nakhon Phanom has no suitable facilities for cats. Soi Dog has supplied a large number of cages for dogs in treatment and some of these will be used initially for the cats. Early indications are that the cats are very friendly domesticated stolen pets.
Soi Dog’s Khun Jeab will be arriving at the shelter tomorrow morning to meet with shelter officials and discuss considerations for the medium term care of the cats.
