Dear Dr Chan,

I would like to request for your assistance to provide AnimalCare
rescue to spay a female cat.

Mr Kumar is a friend of my stray cat feeder neighbour and stays at Kg
Tunku. We both met before because he wanted to adopt a dog. Recently,
a stray female cat has came to his home and his family decided to
adopt her. However, the cat is now on heat and they have confined her
to a room to prevent her from mating with any stray male cats. Mr
Kumar called me to help spay his cat and requested for a rescue rate.
He has agreed to the condition that the cat’s ear to be notched and
will pay the spaying. He will transport the cat to the vet’s this
Friday as I’ve booked a spot for him. Thus, I would like to inquire
whether you can approve of this case?

Thanks and best regards,
Koo

We were happy to provide a subsidy for the spaying of this cat as she is a rescued cat and now adopted by Mr Kumar, but Mr Kumar wanted to pay for it himself.

Hi Dr Chan,

I met the cat last night and it’s a normal tabby. Her name is Maya.
I’ve briefed Mr Kumar on the fasting and applied Revolution to kill
all the fleas ahead of the spaying. He’s feeding her with proper cat
food and regularly bathed her. He also has vaccinated her but someone
else did it for him so he doesn’t have the vaccination card. Mr Kumar
shared that Maya came into their lives by showing up at their doorway
peeping inside a few months ago when she was still a kitten and they
didn’t have the heart to shoo her away. He has agreed to the ear
notching. However, she’s on heat and there were two stray male cats
outside attracted to her and there have been mating calls so she’s
confined to a room after he witness a brief humping a few days before
but Maya ran back in because she has never experienced mating before.
I already briefed him of the vet’s advice of a slight increase in
risk for spaying but I think the possibility that she might get
pregnant (again possibly conceive only a few days ago though) and that
it’s difficult to confine her might persuade the vet to go ahead with
the spaying. Attached is a picture for your reference.

Thank you and best regards,

Koo

Hi Dr Chan,

Just to update that the spaying was successful last Friday.

There was some anxious moments as on the night before the spaying
schedule, Maya ran away when she was spooked upon seeing a stray male
cat waltzing into the house. However, Mr Kumar reported on the next
morning that she returned and was meowing hungrily after not being fed
since lunch time the day before. I reminded on the important need for
the cat to fast and to inform the vet accordingly to see if the
spaying can proceed. Thankfully, the spaying went ahead without a
hitch. Maya was not pregnant and her ear has been notched. Mr Kumar
paid the vet bill in full. Unfortunately, I couldn’t visit the clinic
in time to take a picture of Maya after her spaying.

Thank you and best regards,
Koo
