Speaking Up For Better Treatment Of Animals

Capture

Capture 1

As you know, we have been speaking with the councilor in our area for the last three years and we were told our ear-notched animals cannot be spared from capture.

Then, in May, we requested a meeting with our local council:

At the same time, we have also written many times to our state assemblywoman to request her help. We have been told to be patient and to wait.

Two days ago, we decided to write to our parliamentarian since he had agreed to listen to our woes when we met him before the elections.

We are now waiting for his reply to see if he would be interested to meet us for a discussion.

Subject: the stray animal issue

Dear YB,

I hope this email finds you well.

I’m the one who wrote to you about the treatment of stray animals before the elections, also spoken to you at one of your dialogues and you said you would like to address this issue after the elections.

It is after the elections now.

Perhaps you’d like to know that we have done the following:
Our proposal to the MPSJ:http://myanimalcare.org/2013/05/29/our-proposal-to-the-mpsj/

The meeting:http://myanimalcare.org/2013/06/07/our-meeting-with-mpsj/

As you can see from the above, the council was not agreeable to our proposals, so we reached a dead-end, as we had in the last 3 years of negotiating with a councilor in our area.

The bottom line is that there are laws and by-laws that state that any free-roaming animal is considered a pest and can be captured (and destroyed).

Unless and until this law is changed or relaxed, there does not appear to be a possibility of neutered street animals being allowed to live out their natural lives in our community, sharing this earthly space with fellow urban human residents. They will always be in danger of being captured and killed. This is especially so if private animal catching companies are given tenders to do the job. It might not be a case of responding to complaints anymore, but more of these animal-catching companies making their rounds to do the job they have been assigned and commissioned to do.

We would like to ask if there is any possibility or anything that we can do to appeal to your office for the lives of neutered (identified by the notched ear) animals to be spared from capture-and-kill.

We look forward to your reply.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Dr Chan Kah Yein

While waiting for his reply, we must all carry on doing what we have been doing.

P.S. How I wish animals could vote, don’t you?
