CAT POISONING IN PUTRAJAYA

Over the last few months, we have received reports of several stray cats being fatally poisoned in Putrajaya. The heart-wrenching photos above were taken by one of the residents who saw these strays suffering outside his home. It was too late, the vet could not save them.

The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) is looking into this case, police reports have been made and samples of the poison have been sent to the lab for testing. Neighbours suspect it could have been the Putrajaya council or other neighbours who were irritated with the presence of the cats in/near their homes.

SPCA Selangor inspectors prepared education packs and a student from UPM helped to distribute them in the housing area. The packs contained leaflets (translated to Bahasa Malaysia) on responsible cat ownership, as well as immediate first-aid information and emergency vet contacts in case they come across pets/strays that have been poisoned – quick action could save their lives.

If you have any information on this case, please contact SPCA Selangor at inspectorate@spca.org.my or 4256 5312/ 4253 5179. Thank you.
