Dog & Puppy Training @ Cheerfuldogs Singapore: Dog-Friendly And Positive Reinforcement Training

All dogs can and will bite, if they’re at a high level of stress, fear or arousal. You can be proactive in preventing dog bites by being observant about a dog’s behaviour.

(a) Read a dog’s body language – learn to see the signs of stress in your dog and know when it’s time to give your dog a break, or avoid a potentially risky situation altogether.

(b) Understand the situation – even good dogs can get stressed at times, when they’re tired, scared or overwhelmed.

(c) Protect your dog when necessary – don’t be afraid to ask someone not to pat, hug or kiss your dog if you think your dog isn’t comfortable, or block another dog from coming up to your dog if you think it’s not ready to meet it.

(d) Don’t hope for the best – too often, we hope for the best that something won’t happen, e.g. we’re not sure if our dog likes other dogs but we go to the dog run anyway. That’s not good enough. If you’re not sure if your dog will be scared, overwhelmed or react in a certain situation, don’t put it in that situation until you know what the risk level is.
