Rosie Goes To The Vet
Tweet |
Last night, Rosie came back with a bleeding spot right under her mouth. I cleaned it up, applied iodine on it (of course she licked it all up) and thought it wasn’t anything serious. She ate as usual so I really thought it would be nothing…until this morning when I mentioned it and a friend said she knew of a dog who had a similar bite under the mouth where the owner also thought nothing about. The dog died after one week and it was discovered that it was a snake-bite.
YIKES!!
So I grabbed Rosie (the poor girl was sleeping in the porch) and stuffed her into the carrier, and off we went to the vet’s.
I am a complete sucker for sending animals to the vet at the first sign of trouble. It’s better to be safe than sorry because being sorry would be too late. My whole idea is to get the vet to examine the animal. Taking medicines or not, doing procedures or not – that is an option. Getting the animal properly examined – now, that is NOT an option. It has to be done.
So Rosie sang all the way to the vet’s and so did I. Me trying to calm her down, she trying to tell me that she doesn’t want a car trip.
It was Saturday and it was so crowded at the vet’s.
Finally, it was our turn.
The vet took one look at the bite-wound and more so at Rosie and dismissed the possibility of it being a snake-bite. He said snake venom works fast and the cat wouldn’t be this active.
Rosie was busy exploring the clinic.
I asked if it could be sporo, and the vet said it isn’t likely. Sporo wounds are raw and bigger. Rosie’s wound had already dried up (I know, I checked this morning). So the vet dressed the wound with hibiscrub and iodine and advised me to do the same once a day. Rosie’s temperature was taken and it was normal. The vet was very sure my worries were unfounded.
Timmy was very concerned about Rosie when we got home.
All’s well, no worries, I hope.
Better be safe than sorry.
