THE FULL STORY BEHIND OUR MISSION IN ROMANIA…
Truck driver Tamara Raab recently asked the Harmony Fund animal rescue charity for funds to buy the fuel to drive a tractor trailer of donated dog & cat food, veterinary supplies and pet beds to animal shelters all the way to Romania – a roundtrip of more than 2,000 miles. She was not optimistic in her plea for help because so many rescue groups are forced to say ‘no’ to such requests due to extreme overload. But the Harmony Fund had just one question for Tamara. “How can we make this project MUCH, MUCH BIGGER?” Overwhelmed with surprise and relief, Tamara lowered her face into the palms of her hands as the tears began to warm her cheeks. She knew in her soul that something incredible was about to unfold….
Here we are, three weeks later and the Harmony Fund is unleashing one of the most massive relief efforts ever attempted to impact the lives of thousands upon thousands of dogs and cats in Romania, one of the world’s hot spots for extreme animal cruelty and neglect. Our mission begins with not just one, but TWO big rig trucks bursting with supplies to be distributed to more than a dozen animal shelters. In a campaign that will be powered by the donations of animal lovers here on Facebook, here is what we hope to do in the next 100 days:
#1: PROTECT 1,000 + DOGS FROM DROWING and FREEZING:
Volunteers will converge on the shelter in Campulung where more than 1,000 dogs take refuge in a series of dilapidated buildings. Massive open holes in the rooves will be repaired to keep the snow and wind out. Three smaller buildings must be torn down and rebuilt elsewhere on the property because they flood with water to such an extreme that the dogs cant lay their heads down to sleep without risk of drowning.
#2: CATS WILL SLEEP UNDER THE SNOW NO MORE!
Next, the Harmony Fund will turn to the St. Francis Shelter in Bucharest where well help the cats who were drenched in rain and snow last winter under a roof that opens to the heavens. The roof will be repaired and well buy food and veterinary care for the hundreds of dogs here as well.
#3: URGENT VETERINARY CARE:
With your help, we’ll be providing urgent veterinary care, vaccines and spay/neuter to thousands of dogs and cats in three major Romanian shelters.
#4 : HELP FOR THE UNDERDOGS:
Finally, well be helping volunteers like Dodi Carmen who travels around the countryside on her battered old bicycle bringing food and care to animals in crisis. Despite caring for her father who has cancer, Dodi runs a small, home-based animal shelter and is often up throughout the night, feeding newborn pups every two hours. And when she looks out at her front gate in the morning, there is yet another box of pups that someone has dropped off during the night. For Dodi, help can’t come soon enough.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
The Harmony Fund is a young charity, approaching our 3 year anniversary, but in that short time we have given a tremendous boost to underdog rescue squads across the planet. We run a very efficient operation with 90% of our expenses going directly to animal care and humane education. We dare to dream that we can complete Project Romania in the next 100 days. We need to raise more than $100,000 and that all comes from Facebook users like you. Donations go a very long way in Romania and even the smallest gift can buy food, medicine and shelter supplies and you’ll love the joyful photo updates we post. You have our most heartfelt thanks for your donations today and for sharing our story. Please Give on our website at http://bit.ly/186BsMr
