International Veterinary Teams Mobilized For NP Disease Crisis

Soi Dog has been in contact last week and over the weekend with Thailand’s department of livestock and various international veterinary aid agencies. Permission has been granted for overseas veterinarians to provide emergency relief at the Nakhon Phanom shelter where several thousand dogs rescued from the illegal dog meat trade are housed. With a recent intake of 1500+ dogs, many suffering from illness the situation at the Nakhon Phanom shelter is dire.

The staff at the Nakhon Phanom shelter are doing everything they can however the scope of the problem is overwhelming!

The first emergency response vets will be flying from the United States and United Kingdom arriving Bangkok early Tuesday morning and upon arriving in Bangkok will fly directly on to Nakhon Phanom with Soi Dog’s emergency relief coordinator Khun Toom.

A second emergency response team of 3 to 4 vets from the Philippines will arrive shortly thereafter.

Many thanks and respect to the following organizations for their rapid response to the crisis:

World Vets, Worldwide Veterinary Service and Humane Society International for quickly mobilizing and sending veterinarian teams

Brigitte Bardot Foundation (France) for making an emergency grant of 30,000 Euros to help fund the emergency response.
