The reader (who has requested anonymity) who is helping out with Ongsan’s case has taken Ongsan home so that he can recuperate more comfortably. Things are indeed looking up very well for Ongsan now that he is no longer jaundiced.
Ongsan’s case was reported to us by a Myanmar lady and we asked if Maslinda would be willing to take over Ongsan as the Myanmar lady was not able to do so. Maslinda agreed and two vets that Ongsan was brought to recommended euthanasia (Ongsan was severely jaundiced and was suspected of having sporotrichosis which had spread into his respiratory system). One of our readers then offered to refer Ongsan to her vet who gave a more encouraging prognosis (the jaundice and sporotrichosis wasn’t that bad, after all). This vet subsequently treated Ongsan.
Reminder to all: It pays to seek a second opinion.
Ongsan is now on the road of recovery!
We wish to thank our reader so very much for all she has done for Ongsan. Many thanks to Maslinda too, for her willingness to accept Ongsan.
Here is an update from the reader:
Dear Dr. Chan,
Happy belated Wesak Day and hope all is well with you and all in the family.
I’m not sure whether Mas has updated you that I have taken Ongsan home with us yesterday for a homestay until he is well enough to go home with Mas. I’ll be taking him to the clinic for his daily fluid therapy and antibiotics. Since it was the weekend and Ongsan looks so depressed we decided to try a little homestay therapy for him.
Just took him for his sub-cut and antibiotic jabs and he is now home again with us. He is progressing quite well today according to the vet. His jaundice is almost all gone just a tint and his urine is clear – there is no pigmentation present to indicate the return of his jaundice. His dehydration is getting better; so far so good since he was admitted. The swelling in his inner nose has subsides a bit that he’s able to breathe a little easier. His mood also indicate he’s happier than he wason Friday.
Our two elders Aslan and his sidekick Riley has been keeping Ongsan company (by sleeping on the floor near his cage) though in a distance – they seemed to understand that Ongsan is not well and they need to keep a good distance from him until he’s well.
Ongsan is catching up with his loss sleep and he is sleeping spread out in a relax position unlike in a tensed up huddle position when I saw him at the clinic. He’s happy he has so many visitors of felines kind who came to visit him in his room as he will look up and flutters his eyes. He’s also eating and every time he sees the other eats he also went to his bowl to have a bite; maybe he enjoys eating in the company of others.
That’s all for now.
Regards.
