Wesak Day At The SJBA
Tweet | ![]() |
Early this morning, Connie and I reached the SJBA at around 6.30am (we were late as I had mistakenly set my alarm to ring at 5pm instead of 5am!).
No sooner had we unloaded just one round of stuff than the skies opened up and rain poured down. It’s good, at least it won’t be so hot today. This is “hujan rahmat”, rain that has come to clear the air and wash away all that is bad on this auspicious day!
Luckily the rain stopped soon enough, and we were able to set up our booth quickly. The temple was already bustling with devotees who had probably come much earlier.
Chun Eng soon arrived to help.
We’re all set.
We have three more TY soft toys up for “adoption”.
We decided to call the little black bear the 505 Bear.
Welcome to our booth, folks!
This yellow bear is Bersih Bear.
And this is 505 Bear!
Want to adopt them, anyone?
The day got busy very soon and sales (by donation) was good. Many devotees came dressed in our tshirts of various designs.
Lester soon arrived to help.
Good to see people interested in knowing how to help animals.
And keen to use our cruelty-free soap.
Supporters!
Tshirt sales was brisk and we did not have enough stock (delayed due to the elections).
Amy Tham joined us later. She’s very good at “sizing up” people for the tshirts.
My colleague brought her daughter, Jerusha, who had insisted on meeting me after she read all my books.
Little Jerusha has now converted her whole family into cat feeders, mum and dad included!
Jerusha, her little sister and their dad, with me.
Pink and red were today’s bestsellers.
Winnie joined us.
Repeat buyers of our soap.
Some came after being introduced to the soap by their friends. Isn’t that nice?
“I heard your soap is very good”, they said.
Oh yes, it is, it’s not tested on animals, and you can shampoo your hair with it too.
Yay!! This boy is going to buy Bersih Bear!!
Blow your vuvuzelas, folks!
Bersih Bear has been adopted!!
Now, we only have 505 Bear and Purple Bunny.
The couple came to specially tell me how my book, “Here for a Reason” changed their lives. They now look after the cats around their house and they know how to do it.
They also came to thank me for introducing them to RetroMAD1, which had helped their first rescue, Kina the Cat, recover from parvo virus. Here’s their story:http://myanimalcare.org/2013/04/15/kina-the-cat-parvo-survivor-a-sharing/
And this book, “Do we have a Choice?” turned the world around for their daughter.
She is now a vegetarian!
We finally packed up at 3.30pm, just in time to skip the rain.
It’s been a wonderful day of interacting with our friends, supporters and the visitors to our booth.
Thank you, everyone, for your very kind and gracious support and for sharing our cause with us.
Thank you very much, Connie, Chun Eng, Lester, Amy and Winnie, for all your help.
May all beings be well and happy, and may we work towards making this possible!
