The first reader who offered help for Cherry Berry has reverted that her vet says to give antibiotics but did not give the name of the medicine.
Cherry Berry is already on antibiotics.
We are fortunate that another reader has responded and she too had a cat who had similar symptoms, though not exactly the same.
We have given Azura’s contact to this second reader who will liaise with Azura directly now.
For the purpose of sharing and for education, we have the consent of the second reader (who has requested anonymity) to share her cat’s story below.
Our disclaimer holds.
Dear Azura,
I am the reader that Dr. Chan was referring to in helping Cherry Berry.
To be honest with you I am not sure how I can help although I have a vet of whom you can consult with re Cherry Berry diagnosis. I had a cat who suffers the same symptoms as Cherry Berry but we lost him due to kidney failure last December 2012. Perhaps how I can help you is enlightening you of what not to do. Sounds complicated but bear with me.
Our cat Sam had stomatitis of which severe ulcers and pain in his mouth and although it was first suspected gum disease i.e. gingivitis. He had most of his teeth extracted as per vet’s recommendations.
Later it was diagnose as stomatitis i.e. if in humans the pain is similar when one gets tonsillitis i.e. very painful in the mouth when even swallowing saliva. Our 8 years old Sam had to endure this for almost 3 years. He only can eat when he was on painkillers; he had been given all sort of antibiotics’ you name it clamovox, baytril etc.
Six months prior to his death he was treated with steroid and Vit C injections directly onto his ulcers which was done under anesthetics of which helped to diminished his painand he was eating pain free after that. Right after his steroid treatment his immunity was compromised and developed flu and that was helped by acupuncture not with conventional medicines. We stopped all conventional medications as his kidney already impaired and we want him to be free and enjoy his last days with us so as he was not so stress as he hated all his meds and his visits to the vet.
All the years of antibiotics and painkillers had impacted his internal organs mainly his kidney which was detected by his acupuncturist. At the end he died of kidney failure.
We tried everything including stemcell but he also thrived on homecooked diet of chicken and meats whatever he like to balance his ’yin and yang’ as advised by his acupuncturist (if only we had known earlier). There were good days and bad days. Animal has ‘to eat to live’ in this case as long as the cat can and want to eat he can survive. The day the cat stopped eating – that’s the sigh it has no longer the will to live.
But we had never given him Transfer Factor – we were not aware of its benefits at that time. Lately our vet had been using TF to treat her patients and she did researched and that it has no side effects. Perhaps you can try this on Cherry Berry in the meantime- who knows it might help her without impacting her internal organs.
I also noted that you would like to have a 3rd? opinion with regards to Cherry’s condition. If you want I could speak to our vet and I will brief her first on whatever details you have related on your emails to Dr Chan and I’ll let you know when is a good time to call her. Let me know whatever you decide and I will try to help where I can.
Our vet is not internet savvy and any printed test results you have and Cherry Berry medical history you can fax them to her. Perhaps you could compile Cherry Berry profile and medical history. This is easier for her to refer to. I’ll give her tel/fax no. once she gives me the go ahead to call her.
Let me know whatever you decide ok. Take care.
Regards.
