Helping Kelly & Jacinta�s Tg Rambutan Shelter To Be Independent

Those of you who have been following our work might remember Oei Phaik Imm’s story. Her friend, Judy Chua, wrote to me in 2011 when Imm was in very dire straits. We publicised her plight, raised money to help her, found two generous sponsors who pledged a whole year’s financial help and Phaik Imm’s shelter is thriving now. They are financially independent and have their own steady stream of donations.

We started helping Kelly & Jacinta shortly after that when an Ipoh friend highlighted their plight to us, but this was before we formulated our policies as a registered society. Now, we are bound by policies which only allows us to help needy and responsible INDIVIDUAL caregivers of animals who are not affiliated to any group, organisation or shelter. Hence, in adhering strictly to our policies, Kelly & Jacinta’s shelter is the last shelter we can help in terms of funding as well as giving publicity to for the purpose of raising funds.

Kelly & Jacinta’s Tanjong Rambutan shelter is run by two ladies, Kelly Tan Juat Jong and Jacinta Emmanuel. They have a paid worker to help them on the days where Kelly & Jacinta are not able to go in. They currently have about 118 dogs. Kelly sold her house to build the shelter and Jacinta spends her entire salary on the shelter too.

We have been helping them with our Medical Fund and Food Fund on a regular basis for quite sometime. We are now trying to get sponsors to help them directly so that they too can function independently like Phaik Imm. It would also help very much if people from Ipoh can go in and start a website and facebook page for them. They need a publicity manager.

Recently, we blogged for help (http://myanimalcare.org/2013/04/10/kelly-jacinta-need-urgent-hands-on-help-at-their-dog-shelter-in-tanjong-rambutan)�and when no one responded, I requested help from my old schoolmate, Yvonne. Yvonne has been going in to give hands-on assistance.

According to Yvonne, the dogs are very well looked-after.

Kelly & Jacinta need funding on a regular basis to help pay for the food and medical bills of their dogs. �If you would like to help them, please contact Jacinta directly at�jacemm13@gmail.com and cc your email to chankahyein@gmail.com so that we know what is going on as we are still helping them until such a time when they can function independently on their own.

Help needed:

1. Monthly donations pledged directly to Kelly & Jacinta. Dogfood donations would be best.
2. Hands-on help at the shelter.
3. Setting up a website or facebook page for them.
