Subject: Imm’s shelter – Accounts March 2013
Dear donors & supporters
Curtis and his mom,Yvonne, were one of the first few volunteers who responded immediately to our appeal for volunteers and financial assistance when Dr Chan Kah Yein kindly posted our appeal in her blog just over two years ago in March 2011. They came in to help clean the kennels regularly for several months until we were finally able to get a worker in Nov 2011. When his mom was unable to come, Curtis brought his college friend, Swee Imm. They went about clearing the dog poo and cleanig the kennels with no fuss. They were our 1st two teenage volunteers. Curtis is a lovely young man,courteous,thoughtful,well-mannered with a caring heart. He definitely does his mom proud! Imm and I, and our furry friends, are also very appreciative of Yvonne and her brother’s consistent support. She and her brother, Conrad, have been donating every month since our first appeal. Generosity runs in the family. Yvonne and Conrad, your support is deeply appreciated.
With regards to the month’s expenses, they are higher compared to previous months mainly due to vet fees, medication and special supplements for the cats and dogs totalling almost RM1.3k. A number of cats came down with severe flu and had to be taken to the vet for treatment. Viking, Jingle, Curly and Robbie had to be boarded at the vet’s clinic for their treatment until they were well enough to return to the shelter as the Katz R&R club in my house was full. Mork and Kong are still in the Katz R&R club. Mork was listless and had no appetite when he was brought to my place. He’s recovered and is back in action. I’m taking him back to the shelter today where there’s more room for him to move around. Kong’s running nose is still persisting. His fluish condition has been chronic for months despite continuous medication and health supplements to boost his immunity. I put him back on flu antibiotics yesterday as his nose discharge was coloured & thick. Hopefully he’ll regain good health soon. The dogs’ vet fees for this month was for Smiley and Timothy. Every now and again, the dogs get into a fight. This time, it was Smiley who got attacked. Good thing I was at the shelter. The worker and I managed to break up the fight. Poor Smiley was bitten in a number of places and was bleeding badly. The wound on her belly would not stop bleeding. I had to press on the wound to stop the flow. I stayed with her pressing down on the wound till Imm came to take her to the vet. Luckily the vet said that the wound was not deep. Her wounds have since healed and she’s good as gold. Timothy was treated by the vet for a severe ear infection. In March, the dogs received chewy treats in lieu of Oz chuck bones. Our young volunteers also came in on two Sundays to help out at the shelter. Report and pix to follow by seperate mail.
As always, our furry friends thank you for your support and well wishes. They hope you will come and visit them whenever you’re in Ipoh.
Kind regards judy
We congratulate Phaik Imm, Judy and all their helpers and supporters for doing such exemplary work with the animals and taking such good care of them. We wish to reiterate that we are really proud of how much they have accomplished over such a short time and how they are able to sustain their shelter on their own now.
