Some Photo Updates From Imms Shelter In Tambun, Ipoh

On 4th March 2011 (two years ago), Judy Chua, wrote to me about how Oei Phaik Imm was barely managing at running her shelter in Ipoh. Things were really bad at that time and Imm was desperately in need of emotional, financial and physical help. Imm was on the verge of a breakdown.

I blogged for help and emails were blasted out. Help poured in most generously and within weeks, things were in place again, slowly but surely. Not only did monetary help pour in, physical help did too as I had a former classmate in Ipoh who went in to help Imm and more Ipoh residents started going in to help her.
After a week:http://myanimalcare.org/2011/03/11/friday-updates-on-imm-shelter/
We also managed to get two donors, PC Leong and Chew, who pledged monthly donations for a year and that pledge was fulfilled.

Since then, everything has been going smoothly for Imm and her animals, and we are truly happy for them. Currently their kitty is very healthy and they have volunteers going in regularly to help. The most heartening is to see students from Ipoh who volunteer to help out frequently at the shelter.
Here are some photo updates from Judy Chua:
We are truly happy that everything is going so well for Phaik Imm and all her dogs and cats.
With the ease of getting publicity through the many social media these days, caregivers who run their own shelters can do their own publicity and fundraising.A facebook page these days can do wonders at generating the needed publicity. Even if the caregiver is not IT-literate, she or he can easily seek the help of friends to do the publicity for her/his shelter.
We shall concentrate on helping individuals (as per our policy) and those who have no means of raising funds on their own as these caregivers are the truly needy ones. Our funds are for individuals; not groups, shelters or organisations as this latter group would have the means to raise their own funds.
We also do not want duplication of funds in that multiple fund-raising is going on for the same cause through different channels. Donors may get confused and proper accountability may be difficult to achieve.
Imm’s Shelter is a very good example of a shelter that is able to get back on its feet after the initial “lift” is provided. The photos speak for themselves. The animals are healthy and happy.
If you’d like to volunteer to help out at Imm’s Shelter, please contact Judy Chua atchuajl@myjaring.net or Oei Phaik Imm atpioei@yahoo.com. Their shelter is located in Tambun, Ipoh.
