Medical Subsidy For Injured Cats Surgery (Michelle Lee Soke Huis)

We received the following case recommended by the vet: Michelle Lee had rescued an injured cat with a bad leg. Initially the vet said the leg had to be amputated, but upon examination, an attempt was made to save the leg by doing an IM-pin insertion. The surgery was successful and the cat is recovering now, but would need 5 weeks’ cage rest for this purpose.

We have already banked in RM500 as our subsidy (the bill was RM1215) and upon Michelle’s request, we agreed to source more funds to help with the bill (if our sponsors agree) but upon condition that Michelle emails us photos of the cat weekly. Michelle did not reply to this.

Hence, our subsidy stays at RM500 until we hear from her.

This is from Michelle:

Michelle had initially informed us that the cat’s leg had been amputated, but upon checking with the vet, the vet confirmed that no amputation had been carried out. He was able to save the leg through an IM-pin insertion (using pins and wires). The vet emphasised that the 5-week cage rest is very important for the cat to recover. It is also obvious from the photos above that the leg is intact.

Dear Dr Chan
sorry…i misunderstanding on communications. coz Dr told me that if the surgery is unsuccessful necessary resection, so got two way to do amputation or retain. anyway the surgery is successful and retain the leg, but Dr ask me to keep this stray cat inside my house with cage for 5weeks, coz hesayscarethe leg wound will infection (bernanah).now the cat is at clinic healing after one week only can bring back. actually i scare myself can’t take good care of this cat and scare the leg will get any infection… i will very very sadly and will make me over cost. anyway…i will try my best to take good care, but if the stray cat need some day usemedicine izzit cansubsidise?? i really hope Dr chan can help it…when i saw the bill i get frighten, and i ask Dr to give me pay monthly installment after the subsidise.
thank you,
michelle lee

As stated above, we have already offered to raise extra funds for this bill on condition that Michelle emails photos of the cat weekly, but she did not respond to this.

I hope the cat will recover soon since the surgery had been a success and all is needed now is good post-op care. I have spoken with the vet and he says the cat just requires cage rest for 5 weeks and monitoring of the wound to ensure that it heals well.

Should we hear from Michelle, we will publish an update on this case.
