Thank you to everyone who took part in last weeks contest, sharing what inspired you to turn vegetarian or vegan.
We loved reading your comments, and you are all worthy winners! However, we had to choose just one stand-out comment, and were delighted to announce that Eddie Tang is the winner of the ACRES T-shirt!
Here is Eddies answer, in case you missed it. We are delighted to hear that Eddies wife has recovered from cancer, and wish her the best of health for the future:
Many people choose to be Vegan / Vegetarian for different reasons. Some do it for health, others because they don’t want to be part of the cruelty and some just wants to save the planet. My journey however started because my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year in March (2 days before her 44th bday). She was totally against her doctors advise of doing surgery and chemo. So she started on a strict organic vegan diet, the same day she was diagnosed with cancer. Both of us were big meat eaters so you can imagine this life changing decision of going “cold turkey” on eating meat (pun intended). The first month for me was difficult, but I persevered because I wanted to show as much support as I could. Eventually it got easier with each passing week. The more days I spent as a vegan, the more I learnt from vegan friends on FB on the cruelty which exists in the meat, dairy and egg industry. My wife is now cured of cancer – 218 days after her diagnosis (with no surgery or chemo) but we still continue to abstain from eating meat, dairy or eggs because we want no part in the treatment and cruelty to animals…. My journey started for my wife…. but now we do it for every living being.
